Online Trolling/Harrassment

Wow! I don't know whether to be offended, or flattered! lol I have an online troller, who must be threatened by my little 'ol blog!!! I posted an email invitation that I received from 20/20 Research (I get these often), and this guy accused me of copying it off his site... Well, he, also, sent me an anonymous, threatening email about a week ago (guess he didn't think I'd knwo about IP addys). I'm saving all of the correspondance, just in case I need to follow up. Anyway, this brings me to HR1966, the cyberbullying bill, that is close to being passed. What do you all think about HR 1966? It's got it's good points, along with the bad. You can read a good article about it here. As someone who has been online for 15+ years, I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly. I started a very successful online forum, as well as some great email groups. I've seen how people behave when online, I guess because they are able to "hide" behind their computer screens. I have always been amazed at how, when several adults get online, many of them start behaving like kids on a playground, getting in petty spats. That's why I quit messing with the forums.
Have any of you experienced things like this? He's actually posting libelous remarks about me, and I don't know whether to laugh it off, or pursue harrassment charges. What would you recommend?

  1. Alicia, There are a lot of people who become arrogant, selfish and inconsiderate when online. Give them words of wisdom then ignore them. You have done a great job. Keep it up. I support you all the way.

  4. What is the trailer? ;D. good rightup, hope they pass that bill soon. I have never been cyberbullied, but I have seen blogs and forums where it was being done. I wrote something about that yearbook girl, posted a forum where they were doing it.

  5. I don't support the bill, but only because I think we have to be very wary of anything that could lead to government regulation or control of the Internet and its free flow of opinion, much of it displeasing to the establishment. Don't give them a foot in the door.

I sympathize, though, with anyone who has to deal with any sort of harassment
